you just got served
So today (yes I was at the lib) my friend led me to this article about how a law student asked for his tuition money back because he was never gonna get a job. It was funny because it was sad.
Also recently, I did the reading for my anthro class (ha!) by Richard Matasar, president of NY Law School Does the Current Economic Model Work for Law Schools, Law Firms (or anyone else)?
This article was actually interesting/sad/true like the above one. Some issues both articles talk about is what a law degree is worth in the economic downturn, how the system is failing, etc. What we're all taught from a very young age is a very simple formula
Education=Job
+ More education= Higher paying job
- loans+high paying job=the sweet life
UNFORTUNATELY, education does not always equal high paying job to pay off my thousands of dollars worth of student loans. The Matasar article also points out what I have been saying for years, that pretty much the RICH and WELL TO DO are the only ones that come out in a good economic state after higher education (and the braniacs w/ scholarships). But the vast majority of people seeking higher education are NOT rich. So what the fuck are our options? What the hell are we supposed to do? Go to the grave $100 million dollars in debt? That aint right.
MY PROPOSAL:
The reality is we live in a flawed democratic society. The people runnin' shit doesn't really give a flying fuck about "the common man." So you guys can nominate me for dictator when the time comes or we should actually TRY TO CHANGE the current Ponzi scheme called "learning." How? Well instead of bitching and moaning, something we're all very good at, we need to organize. For obvious reasons there isn't shit I can do about this now, but the first step is to start writing your constituents, representatives, deans, Obama. Someone needs to start lookin out for US. And if you make me dictator I won't forget the students. Yeah writing sometimes doesn't make that much of a difference, neither does voting in your local elections for that matter. But somebody needs to start helping us. If the current old people keep saying "the children are our future" we won't be able to have a future or help the future if mother fuckers don't start helping us.
Really we need a scapegoat. No good revolution takes place without a proper scapegoat (according to history). I'm down w/ blaming that volcano in Iceland w/ the ash cloud. Or the fact that they took The Wire off the air. The bottom line is, there's enough of us to make a stink so let's start stinkin' this bitch up.
I think there's a lot of people like me that will be damned if I ain't makin over $60K when I get out. We had this speaker in class the other day, she's an attorney w/ her own firm, and basically she was talking about how great and awesome her life is and how our life sucks and we will all be poor when it's said and done. I guess in the 90's when she graduated law school there was such a high demand for lawyers that bitches were rollin in dough. I would like to also roll in dough.
Mostly, I am afraid that once I do (G-d willing) get into the working world I can do it. I am not a rational thinking person in the morning nor pleasant. My vocab mainly consists of grunts and moans so a 9-5 or anything earlier than 9 is out. Cheerful people also make me want to hurt puppies.
I also have become very much accustomed to sweat pants, so suits and business attire is out.
And I was recently reminded by a close friend that I will probably lose any clients I get because of my lack of short term memory, especially when it comes to names.
My law degree will remedy this when I pass the bar right?
